The "45th Parallel" Olympiad by NCFU
The open school-students' olympiad of the North-Caucasus Federal University (СКФУ) — 15 profiles ranging from mathematics and physics to geology, design and foreign languages (Arabic among them). The qualifier is online from anywhere, and the final is in person in Stavropol, Pyatigorsk and Nevinnomyssk. Taking part is free, and the season begins on 1 October 2026.
Olympiads whose winners and prize-winners may apply for the Russian Government quota — school students' list
Official file (PDF) ↗The qualifying round runs from 1 October 2026 to 20 February 2027. That is the length of the stage itself, exactly as the regulations (§2.4) and the rules of procedure (§1.4) word it: "Отборочный тур проводится с 1 октября 2026 года по 20 февраля 2027 года". 🔴 20 February is not a "registration deadline" — not one official document calls it that, and no separate registration window is published at all. What is published: the testing portal <bdi>testing.olymp.ncfu.ru</bdi> lets you create an account today, but no official text says registration for the season has opened. 🟡 And there is a second, entirely separate registration: "Регистрация на площадку финала" — a form per profile that books your seat at the in-person final. See the profile timetable below.
18 days left until it opens1 October 2026The current official documents do not agree on which countries are eligible: one restricts it to the near-abroad countries, while another covers both the near and the far abroad. So eligibility for a student from Egypt or any Arab country outside the near abroad needs written confirmation from the organiser before relying on this opportunity.
⚠️ The box above states the conclusion: the current official documents do not agree on which countries are eligible. These lines show you both texts exactly, so you can judge for yourself:
🏛️ This olympiad is entry No. 31 on a list whose full name is: "Олимпиады школьников, победители и призеры которых могут претендовать на обучение в 2026/27 учебном году в пределах установленной Правительством Российской Федерации квоты на образование в Российской Федерации иностранных граждан и лиц без гражданства, в том числе соотечественников, проживающих за рубежом" — 42 entries across 4 pages, published as a PDF on studyinrussia.ru.
⚖️ And the precise wording of what listing confers is the list's own title: winners and prize-winners "могут претендовать" — they may put themselves forward for study within the quota. A possibility of applying, not a vested right, not a place and not funding. ⇒ Being on the list is official evidence that international students are within the olympiad's scope at all — but it settles no particular nationality.
🔎 And in fairness: the list file itself carries no order number, no date and no named issuing authority — no "Утверждено приказом" and no seal. It contains a title and a table, nothing else. (We read it in full on 8 September 2026.)
🔴 But the organiser's own two official texts do not say the same thing about country scope — and this is the single most important line on the page:
① The regulations (Положение) §1.5 — the higher-ranking document, approved by order № 1937-О on 21 August 2026 — limit participants from outside Russia to "учащиеся образовательных организаций стран ближнего зарубежья", i.e. the near abroad (the former Soviet republics) alone, and only where their programmes correspond — under Russia's international agreements — to the Russian level of basic and secondary general education. The homepage repeats the same wording.
② The rules of procedure (Регламент) §2.1 — the procedural document for the same season — say of the qualifying round: "В отборочном туре принимают участие все желающие учащиеся, проживающие на территориях субъектов Российской Федерации, странах ближнего и дальнего зарубежья" — the near and far abroad. And §3.3 explicitly provides for foreign citizens' identity documents with a notarised Russian translation for the final.
⚖️ Egypt and the Arab countries are the far abroad, not the near abroad. So the two texts do not match, and the higher-ranking one is the narrower. ⇒ We will not tell you "open to all international students", and we will not tell you "closed". What we can say precisely: the official texts conflict on country scope, and settling it for your own nationality needs written confirmation from the organiser — [email protected] or 8-8652-94-37-33. Ask in as many words: may a student from the far abroad take part, and which documents are required?
What is the "45th Parallel" Olympiad?
An open olympiad for school students run by the North-Caucasus Federal University (Северо-Кавказский федеральный университет — СКФУ) in Stavropol, southern Russia, together with its branches in Pyatigorsk and Nevinnomyssk. The name comes from the 45th parallel, the latitude the region sits on.
The official regulations (§1.4) set out its purpose: identifying and developing school students' creative abilities and their interest in scientific work, spreading scientific knowledge, and creating the conditions to support gifted children. And participation is voluntary and free (homepage and "О нас").
What matters for an Arabic-speaking reader: this olympiad is unusually multi-profile — 15 profiles spanning the sciences, humanities, engineering and the creative disciplines, and each profile has its own eligible grades, its own final date and its own cities. So the question is not "when is the olympiad?" — it is "when is my profile?".
And the foreign-languages profile includes Arabic in as many words: regulations §2.2 writes it "<bdi>иностранные языки (арабский, английский, китайский)</bdi>".
What do you get if you win?
🔴 Read these four before you build anything on this — it is the most important paragraph on the page:
① The regulations contain no admission benefit at all. We read them in full (20 pages) and the rules of procedure in full (9 pages): the only prize the documents provide for is diplomas, certificates and gifts. Not one word about admission without entrance examinations (БВИ), about 100 points counted on the ЕГЭ, or about extra individual-achievement points.
② And this is not a "Перечень" olympiad. Quite the opposite — §1.10 of the regulations says the organising committee submits an application to the Russian Council of School Olympiads (РСОШ) to compete for inclusion in the Ministry's "Перечень олимпиад школьников". In its own document's words: it is still trying to get onto that list. And the Ministry's list for 2026/27 was still a draft order, not an approved one, as of the verification date (the order in force is No. 669 of 30 August 2025, covering 2025/26). ⇒ БВИ / 100-point benefits do not arise here.
③ And any points figure you have seen elsewhere — "+3", "+5", "+10" — we cannot confirm. We searched СКФУ's published official documents and found no text granting this olympiad individual-achievement points at admission. Those numbers appear on third-party sites only — and a third party is not a source. If you want to rely on them, ask the СКФУ admissions committee directly.
④ And winning is not a quota, not a place and not funding. What the ministry list confers is the possibility of applying ("могут претендовать") — the final admission decision is governed by the quota rules, the university's admission rules and the applicant's own status. This page carries no "NCFU scholarship", no "guaranteed admission" and no promise of funded study.
📄 Every word in this section comes from: "Положение об организации и проведении Открытой олимпиады … «45 параллель»" (§1.10 · §8.5) and "Регламент …" — both PDFs on the official /dokumenty page · and the Ministry of Science's 2026/27 school-students' list (ОШ 2026_27 утв_школьники.pdf on studyinrussia.ru — entry No. 31). All read on 8 September 2026.
How do you take part?
Everything runs through NCFU's educational testing portal, and the rules of procedure describe the process precisely. The key points: a student who does not register on the portal is not admitted to the olympiad at all (§2.3), and repeat registration is forbidden and annuls the results (§2.4):
📋 Documents for the in-person final — taken verbatim from the official documents page:
• An identity document (passport or birth certificate) — original + copy. • A certificate from your educational institution (справка) — the original. • Parent / legal-guardian consent to the collection, storage, use and publication of personal data for minors (the template is published on the documents page). • Stationery. • СНИЛС (original or copy) — this is the Russian social-insurance number, and a student living outside Russia will usually not have one; the documents say nothing about an alternative for foreign participants ⇒ an item to ask about alongside the eligibility question. • Permitted: water in a transparent bottle · chocolate · biscuits · medication if needed.
🌍 And if you are a foreign citizen: Регламент §3.3 says in as many words that "<bdi>Иностранные граждане предоставляют документ, удостоверяющий личность, с переводом на русский язык, заверенным нотариально</bdi>" — an identity document with a notarised Russian translation. Prepare it early.

The stages — how you reach the final
Personal registration at <bdi>testing.olymp.ncfu.ru</bdi>. Anyone who does not register is not admitted, and repeat registration annuls your results.
From 1 October 2026 to 20 February 2027. A computer test, from anywhere, one to 3 hours depending on the profile, and you choose your own start time.
You reach the final by scoring 45% or more of the maximum qualifier score. There is no appeal on the qualifier — the result appears in your cabinet.
A separate form per profile ("Регистрация на площадку финала") books your city, and the profile's committee sends you a personal invitation.
Between 13 March and 10 April 2027 depending on your profile, in Stavropol, Pyatigorsk or Nevinnomyssk. 3 hours 55 minutes, and entry on presentation of an identity document.
🔴 The two stages are entirely separate, and each profile stands alone. The qualifier is online and you sit it from your own country; the final is in person inside Russia — so travel is part of the calculation if you get through. And before you start any of it, settle where your nationality stands (read the eligibility box above).
The 15 profiles
The names are exactly as they appear in regulations §2.2 and on the official profile pages — and each profile's eligible grades are in the table above:
Who can take part?
Regulations §1.5 name both groups: students of institutions delivering basic general, secondary general and secondary vocational programmes. And the grades differ by profile — from 6 for geography to 9 for most profiles.
Mathematics and computer science only: "учащиеся 5-8 классов принимают участие вне конкурса" — they take part without entering the ranking for a placing.
Students of educational institutions in Stavropol Krai and the other regions of Russia are eligible in as many words under §1.5.
Regulations §1.5 say the "near abroad" alone, while Регламент §2.1 adds the "far abroad" for the qualifier. And Egypt and the Arab countries are the far abroad. ⇒ Ask for written confirmation for your nationality before you build a plan.
The Ministry of Science and Higher Education's 2026/27 school-students' list — the list dedicated by its own title to the quota for educating foreign citizens and stateless persons in Russia.
"Участие в олимпиаде является добровольным и бесплатным" — voluntary and free in the official site's own words. There are no registration fees.
Among the final's documents: consent from a parent or legal guardian to the collection, storage, use and publication of a minor's personal data — the template is published on the documents page.
Even if you win: the regulations award diplomas and gifts, and being on the list gives a possibility of applying ("могут претендовать") within the quota. Read "What do you get if you win?" carefully.
Tap any question to open the answer ▾
💬I am an Egyptian / Arab student — can I take part?
This is the most important point on the page, and the honest answer is: unresolved — the official texts themselves conflict.
① The regulations (Положение) §1.5 — the higher-ranking document, approved by order No. 1937-О on 21 August 2026 — limit participants from outside Russia to students of educational institutions in the "near abroad" (страны ближнего зарубежья) alone. The homepage repeats the same wording.
② But the rules of procedure (Регламент) §2.1 — the procedural document for the same season — say of the qualifier: "all students who wish to, residing in the regions of Russia and the countries of the near and far abroad". And §3.3 explicitly provides for foreign citizens' identity documents with a notarised Russian translation.
③ And the "О нас" page gives a third wording: "those studying these programmes abroad".
④ And the olympiad is entry No. 31 on the Ministry of Science's 2026/27 list — the list dedicated in the first place to the quota for educating foreign citizens.
⇒ Egypt and the Arab countries are the far abroad, not the near abroad. So we will not tell you "open to all international students" and we will not say "closed". What we can say precisely: ask for written confirmation at [email protected] or 8-8652-94-37-33, in as many words: "may a student from the far abroad take part, and which documents are required?"
💬When is the registration deadline?
There is no published "registration deadline" — and that is an important fact.
What is officially published is the length of the qualifying round: from 1 October 2026 to 20 February 2027. The regulations and the rules of procedure call it "Отборочный тур проводится с … по …" — a stage, not a registration window.
🔴 And 20 February is not a registration date — not one official document calls it that. It is the last day on which you can sit the qualifier.
In practice: create your account and sit the qualifier early within the window, not on the last day. And if you get through, there is a second, separate registration for the final's venue.
💬Is registration open right now?
The testing portal lets you create an account, but no official text says registration for the season has opened.
The distinction matters: testing.olymp.ncfu.ru is an educational portal that runs all year, and the homepage explains how to create an account. But the qualifying round itself begins on 1 October 2026 under the regulations and the rules of procedure, and there is no separate official announcement opening registration.
⇒ That is why this page says "the season begins on 1 October" and does not announce that the season's registration has opened. We never claim a door is open without evidence.
💬Does winning mean I get into the university on the quota?
No — and here is the full answer.
① Being on the Ministry of Science's list (entry No. 31) means winners and prize-winners may apply for study in 2026/27 within the quota set by the Russian Government for foreign citizens and stateless persons. A possibility of applying — not a place and not funding.
② And the regulations themselves contain no admission benefit. We read them in full: the prize for winning is diplomas, certificates and gifts (§8.5) — not one word about admission without entrance examinations (БВИ), about 100 ЕГЭ points, or about extra points.
③ Quite the opposite: §1.10 says the organising committee submits an application for the olympiad to be included in the Ministry's "Перечень олимпиад школьников" — meaning that, in its own document's words, it is not on that list. And that list is the source of БВИ / 100-point benefits; it is not the quota list.
④ And any points figure you have seen elsewhere (+3 / +5 / +10) is unconfirmed by us — we found it in no published official СКФУ document.
In short: a possibility of applying within the quota — yes. A place, funding or БВИ — no.
💬Is the qualifier online or in person? And the final?
The qualifier is online from anywhere; the final is in person inside Russia.
The qualifier: a computer test on NCFU's portal, "заочная форма … в режиме online", solved individually "в любом месте" — from your own home.
The final: "очная форма" at NCFU premises — Stavropol, Pyatigorsk or Nevinnomyssk, depending on your profile.
🌍 Are there centres outside Russia? Regulations §2.3 allow premises in "the countries of the near and far abroad" in accordance with an NCFU order, or a remote format. But not a single centre outside Russia is published in the 2026/27 timetable. ⇒ Do not assume one exists.
💬Is there webcam proctoring in the qualifier?
Not stated — and that does not mean "there is none".
We read the regulations in full (20 pages), the rules of procedure in full (9 pages) and every page of the site: zero mentions of electronic proctoring, a webcam or screen recording in the qualifier.
And what is written points the other way: the task is solved "anywhere" and you choose your own start time — neither is a property of an invigilated session.
🔴 But in the final the checking is real and in person: entry to the room is by list and on presentation of a passport, there are invigilators in the room, and any electronic device, even switched off, counts as use and the participant is removed.
💬Is it in Russian?
Neither the regulations nor the rules of procedure contain a single working-language clause — so we will not state "the olympiad's language is Russian" as a general fact.
What is established: every published material (the site · the regulations · the archived tasks and criteria) is in Russian, the testing portal's interface is Russian, and foreign participants are required to provide a notarised Russian translation of their identity document.
🟢 And the exception that is written down: the foreign-languages profile appears in regulations §2.2 as "иностранные языки (арабский, английский, китайский)" — Arabic, English and Chinese.
💬Which documents does the final require?
Taken verbatim from the official documents page:
• An identity document (passport or birth certificate) — original + copy. • A certificate from your educational institution (справка) — the original, ordered from your school in advance, with copies if you are entering more than one profile. • Parent or guardian consent to the processing and publication of personal data for minors. • Stationery. • СНИЛС (original or copy). • Permitted: water in a transparent bottle · chocolate · biscuits · medication.
🌍 And for foreign citizens Регламент §3.3 requires an identity document with a notarised Russian translation.
⚠️ Note: СНИЛС is a Russian social-insurance number, and a student living outside Russia will usually not have one — and the documents mention no alternative. Ask about it alongside the eligibility question.
💬What is the difference between this and the student "45 параллель"?
They are two entirely different competitions — and confusing them costs a year.
This one (the page you are on): "Открытая олимпиада СКФУ «45 параллель» среди учащихся образовательных организаций" — for school and vocational (СПО) students, 15 profiles, and entry No. 31 on the Ministry of Science's school-students' list.
The other one: "Всероссийская студенческая олимпиада (с международным участием) «45 параллель»" — for university students, and entry No. 42 on the ministry's Master's list.
🔴 And the phrase "with international participation" belongs to the student edition alone — it must not be carried across to the school edition. The same goes for the dates, the subjects, the grades and the eligibility: they have nothing to do with each other.
Every figure and quotation on this page is taken from the olympiad's official site (parallel45.olymp.ncfu.ru), from the official regulations and rules of procedure (PDFs · approved by order № 1937-О on 21 August 2026) and from the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education's 2026/27 list — all read on 8 September 2026. And the eligibility of students from the far abroad — Egypt and the Arab countries among them — is unresolved in the published texts and needs written confirmation from the organiser. The olympiad is competitive and winning is not guaranteed (winners are capped at 8%), being on the list gives a possibility of applying within the quota — not a place and not funding, and the regulations set out no admission benefit at all. The official site is always the final reference.
Read it? Start preparing
Know someone this could matter to?
Send it to them — a minute from you could change a year of theirs.
Settle your eligibility first — then prepare your profile
If you are from outside the "near abroad", send the organiser a written question before anything else. And once they reply: pick your profile from the table, create your account on the NCFU portal, and sit the qualifier early within the window — not on the last day.
